Providing your only supporting or lifting the engine slightly with a trolley jack then positioning the jack on the sump will be fine . By Lifting engine slightly I mean lifting just enough to remove the mounting . Trolley jack should have decent yoke that will spread load but you may need to use wooden blocks to reach the engine as your car will have to be on axle stands first.

awesome Semnoz and really appreciate that little titbit was having nightmares about busting sump or mounts etc
having a bit of trouble getting decent parts catalogue for mk 3 v 70 so i can quiry correct specific torques for certain bolts or mountings not listed in hAynes
cant see one on the voc members log in tech area either got any clues as to where ?
