ASAHARTZ you rock my dear fellow...

This was a life saver. We'd manage to get as far as trying to pull the pipe out and just couldn't work it out without having to lift the engine bay. We then came across this thread and we used a screwdriver, brute force and a lot of cursing and it worked a treat! Took us slightly longer than the 3 hours its taken others, but we got it done.

We noticed though that there was a huge difference in the new pipe to the old pipe. It appears that they may have altered the design a little as we did consider bending the pipe prior to fitting it (so that it would go in the same way it came out) but it wasn't necessary. The pipe just slid right it... the tricky bit was realigning the hose behind the wheel arch. It was very fiddly and my small hands struggled but managed to after a few failed attempts and a lot of cursing..but the husband was pleased..

Ours was an XC90 2003... for those wondering.. and the part was £130 from Volvo.

I have the same leak on my MY2005 XC90 and Caffyns tell me the hose is £144, they did say the subframe had to drop ...... expensive.
Were you able to replace the hose without dropping the subframe?

Despite the age of this thread, i have to give thanks to ASAHARTZ for writing this up many moons ago.spent last 4.5 hours on this pig of a job on my 05 D5.

I can confirm it can be done without dropping subframe.

It is limited Access.
The hose came from FRF - £160 inc delivery (,thanks Simon)
A long 1/4drv extension bar was a godsend
The pipe is a different shape
You do need to take the block thingy (its a vibration damper apparently?) Off the front subframe to route the new pipe
New pipe needs encouraged / bent ( carefully, like its your first born) to fit round the engine and front crossmember.

No signs of leaks yet, thanks a million guys

Seems after some investigating that i too need a new hose. There is some difference in what people have paid for the hose. Do dealers really differ this much. I've never considered the need to do around between franchise but apparently I was wrong??

Mine is leaking from the crimped connected at the steering wheel pump however I assume it's one long hose all the way to the rack?

Great write up by the way!!

Many thanks to ASAHARTZ. Excellent write-up. Took a while, and after a confidence crisis, mananged to feed (force) it through the narrow gap at the fixing lug for the undertray/splash guard. £162 including VAT from my nearest Volvo dealership in Aberdeen. I have an XC90 2011 200pa D5. Also replaced the power steering pump at the same time.

I have checked my PS pipes and they are as described above - not located in the clips. So I presume they have been replaced by a previous owner. 😀.
2006 vintage.
