Default T5 engine revs run on----WHY?

My T5 850 1994, is 'running on'. Whats happening is that the revs are not dropping straight away when i take my foot off the acceleration.
When i change gears, in between gears when i press the clutch, the revs rise slightly then drop slowly making gear chAnging feel weird and frustrating, and am concerned why its happening........ ANY IDEAS???

Have you checked for either sticking throttle cable, or if electronic throttle, sticking actuating mechanism for the throttle potentiometer. It might be the Engine Control Unit developing a fault or it's plug coming adrift as alternatives.

All the best, Peter.

Mine does this to and is very common, some ECU's have a built in 'rev-hold' that makes the gearchange smoother and puts less stress on transmission.
As an aside the V6 Mondeo also does this and is usually only noticeable during slow gearchanges.

This tends to be a "feature"

You may be able to make it a bit better by cleaning the throttle body and the idle air value.

Do a search on 850 forum for method.

Regards.

I'm going to clean up the thottle body next week, I've heard you should always get a new gasket if you're doing this yeah?
