If so, does this allow a DVD in the under seat DVD player to be shown on the Sat Nav screen?
Yip - that looks like it!

The Volvotech guys are great - excellent customer service.

The DVD under the seat can only be used for the satnav - not playing nmovies.

BUT - the interface lets you connect other video sources such as cameras, playstations, DVD or media players such as Ipods etc to the dashboard screen.

BIG reply here so I will do my best... that is some amount of questions!

I'm comfortable working on cars, but I'm completely new to the XC and Volvo's in general. Here are my thoughts and questions:

Are 2008 models PAL 50 as well? Just so you know, I have no idea what PAL 50 means, but I'll look for that if that's what is needed

I do suspect that they will all be PAl 50 so a format converter of some sorts would be required to play back NTSC. You could of course use an iPod or other mendia player to play the video and set that up as PAl - then you would have no hassles.
Are detailed instructions showing the details (where they go) of each wire included? Is this the only company that makes this interface? I'd prefer to find a retailer in the USA to save on shipping costs.

The Volvotech instructions contain all you need. The box need 12v power, ground, and then there are two switch wires - one for input 1 and one for input 2 - the second input has priority over the first - so that a reversing camera will show even when a video/dvd is playing.
The remaining cables connect to the satnav screen and dvd unit.

I'm assuming you are referring to the DVD unit that controls the SatNav. Where exactly is the DVD unit mounted? My car has the factory SatNav and individual DVD players in each headrest, so I don't need to run composite cables as you did, correct? I will not send the DVD player signal to the SatNav, as I'd like to save that input for the front-mounted camera.

As such, I think I would simply wire the rear camera to the Volvotech interface plug. Correct?

Please describe where you added the diode and what additional wires you had to run to facilitate this manual control. I think this feature is brilliant!

The diode needs to go between the box and the rear reverse lamp wire. There are no issues with voltage drop - it works fine.
Did you simply tap into a wire that leads to the back-up (reversing) lamps?

Since I won't use the second input on the Volvotech interface for a DVD input, I'd like to use it for a front-mounted camera. My thought is to have a switch activate the front camera, which would then overide the SatNav. Then if the car is put in reverse, the reverse camera would overide all other signals. What do you think?

I'm thinking of wiring the front camera the same way you wired your DVD input into the SatNav. Can you please describe how you wired this particular feature? Did you use a rocker switch that basically "switches" the signal between two input sources? Details on what switch you used would be great too.

No - the switching is all at 12V so its easy peasy - the volvotech box has two input wires - just apply 12v to the one corresponding to the video input you want active.
Also, how does the Volvotech interface unit know that it should show the DVD input rather than the SatNav when you hit the rocker switch? Does it have "intelligence" or are you simply bypassing the SatNav signal with the rocker switch?

Also, I have two switch "blanks" in the front console (below the climate control switches) and would like to mount the rocker switches here. Would the factory switches work for what I'm trying to do? I like the "factory" look.

Sorry for all the questions, but I'd like to get this right the first time without ruining anything! Thanks in advance for your help and patience.

Great stuff... its handy that the guide lines at max are 1meter from the rear of the car.

The lens is a very wide angle, and (to be expected) the sides do curve a bit, but its wide enough to see the towball!

Thanks David,

Final question (hopefully) if I but this interface cable and connect a device, where does the audio come out?

FM transmission, so use a preset channel on the radio to output audio

Yip - as he says - just pick a free Fm channel and set the modulator to that and away you go - no big cost and audio through the speakers if you are not using headphones (which most RSE use seems to be).
