S40 V40: - 2001 - Oil Filter / Housing

Hey Guys-

Changed my oil and am not sure if there is supposed to be a gap between the plastic oil filter housing and where it attaches to the engine.

I know it is a dumb question. When re-installing the filter, I put a little oil in the housing and around each end of the filter / holes. I pushed the filter onto the male part of the receptor on the engine ... but maybe not fully pushed on the plastic housing male receptor ???

That looks wrong.
Did replace and install the seal/o-ring correctly?

Yes

While screwing the filter housing back on to where it is now -
it was pretty snug when I stopped turning it, I didn't want to crack the housing ...
even though it seemed I could turn it more -
but the resistance was pretty high at that point.

Again - I think I may not have pushed the filter onto the plastic housing male receptor - see attached.

No that doesn't look right to me either, I may be incorrect, but I thought that the O ring goes over the outer threaded bottom part and fits into a groove about 3 or 4 threads from the end, which then fits into the recess in the upper part and butts up to it once tightened.

Hey Guys - Both of you were right -

Per IPD video: The filter must be pushed firmly into the housing. It will "snap" in when pushed firmly. The filter has a foam material on the sealing surface. If it isn't tight, it won't seal and will allow dirty oil to get past the filter.

FWIW - to make the above fix, I only removed the filter and only about 1/2 quart / maybe less came out of the engine. Hence, it was both an easy fix and only lost a small amount of oil.

Oh yeah! I'd completely forgotten about it, but I've been foxed by that before now. Good job figuring it out.

Good practice is to fill the filter housing with oil before replacement.
