ABS light, on and off when it feels like it.
Hi all,
My 1997 2.0 auto 850 is in for it's MOT tomorrow but the ABS light sometimes stays illuminated after start up, obviously this is going to be an MOT fail. I haven't driven this 850 far, I got it without an MOT and have been repairing the few things it needs. Does the ABS light go out once the car goes over a certain speed? Once off it seems to stay off for the rest of the day. Any advice?

Tim: ~ had a similar problem a few months back on my ’97 V70. Now sorted by soldering the module points- some other work done as can be seen in the attached post. The ABS light comes on with the ignition and should extinguish very quickly prior to starting. Once the module repair had been completed then when road tested above approx. 15mph it went out and stayed out (reset not required for this V70) You will have to keep things crossed for the MOT regarding the light being on? Prior to fixing but quite a straight forward fix once you identify the cause. Good Luck Bob. |

If it is dodgy solder joints in the module the bodge that I posted in the thread Bob has linked to worked until I did a proper job of resoldering the board in the module (you might need to make it look a bit tidier than my picture to keep an MOT tester happy).

If the module solder joints are dodgy
Wedge a couple of old credit cards or cardboard visiting cards to sort of tighten the joint down the side of the module... might work as a temporary fix so the ABS light goes out after start up.
The module unplugs by swivelling it down, and it can become a bit loose. The speedometer is likely to die along with cruise control when the ABS doesn't work. |

Well it passed the MOT with just one advisory on greased brake pipes! So pretty pleased.
I'll see how the ABS light behaves once it's on the road. Thanks for all the advice!
