Default XC60 T8 - opinions and questions

Hi forum,

The XC60 T8 Inscription Pro has finally arrived. One week and 1000 Km later I have some opinions. Wonderful build quality, as expected, am really excited and happy with the buying decision, so I will not list here all the good things , but a few disappointments and questions.
  • A bit shocked by the size of the intelisafe box behind the mirror. It is obstructing the view quite a lot when at a red light. Will probably have to get used to it
  • I couldn't find a way to set an "auto zoom" to the navigation map, e.g to get closer when approaching a crossroad and to zoom out when driving on the highway
  • Anyone knows what's the purpose of the VolvoID app on the center display? I logged in and now it says I can use all the "connected car" features, but I don't see anything new, on top of what I already saw before.
  • I can confirm what someone else was also complaining about here in the past regarding the pilot assist. I have LHD, when driving on the left most lane it drives to close to the left continuous line. It is like it would try to lock the car between the right intermittent line and the "left highway margin" instead of the left painted line. I haven't noticed the issue on other lanes. Anyone else noticed this/found a solution?
  • Voice commands seem to work pretty smooth, BUT here's a warning for others being in my situation. I'm not a native english speaker, I leave in a country where the main language is German (which I don't speak) and most of my contacts have non English (or hardly pronounceable in English) names... long story short, I can easily instruct the car to do stuff, but I cannot call most of my contacts or drive to a "german" address
  • Washing the car with the key in your pocket keeps locking and unlocking the doors because of the water touching the door button... keep the key in the car
I could go on with questions but this post is already long and some mystery is never bad

Have a sunny weekend!

P.S. If anyone curious about anything I am happy to answer any questions about the XC60 Inscription with basically all the features except B&W, alarm, tow bar, and child features

I would love to get the drop on the mpg. It would appear at 20mile trips charged each end give the 135mpg equivilebt. The 100mile trips give no real advantage. At what point is the cross over.

There is no auto zoom on the main map display but the smaller map on the driver's display will auto zoom all the time. You may need to switch on the driver's map display as it isn't on by default.

It allows the Volvo app on your phone or tablet to connect to the car.

I wouldn't worry. It even struggles with English names and addresses spoken by an English speaker.

Here are some stats:
  • Today, driving in the city: 20.9 mi, 142 mpg, 10.1kWh (3.0 regenerated)
  • yesterday, city, 22.1 mi, 95 mpg, 12.5 kWh (3.3 regenerated)
  • before yesterday, city-highway-city and return, 200.1 mi, 35.2 mpg, 24.2 kWh (17.4 regenerated)
  • few days ago, city with empty battery, 10.5 mi, 25.9 mpg, 2.9kWh (3.1 regenerated)

Both the city and highway rides involved some hills, I don't get straight roads around here...

I guess the cross over depends on what you compare it with... I can only compare with my previous Hyundai, 2.0 diesel, 184 hp and all the amounts above are better then I would have got with it. On top diesel is 10% more expensive than super premium...

Nevertheless, I didn't get the T8 to save money. I guess the 10K difference between the T6 and T8 (in Switzerland) is hardly justifiable (financially speaking). Driving silent and still having a beast at your feet.... priceless

I set up the VOC app on the phone together with my dealer when I picked up the car and it's been working fine since then. The other day I noticed the "Volvo ID" app in the car which was not logged in. I logged in successfully with the same id I used for VOC app on the phone, but haven't noticed any changes. So my question was, what's the point/benefit in logging on this app in the car, since you don't seem to get any extra features?

I will also add one complaint/question to the OCD T8 owners on this forum: how come Volvo didn't allow us to order (cornering) fog lights, but they "forgot" to remove the fog lights button???

Enjoy the coming week

We have had our T8 a week now and so far loving it but have a couple of questions:

1. when in pure/hybrid mode the engine will switch to petrol and the electric part of the power gauge will disappear even with a full battery doing 30 mph. This is fixed by turning it on and off but seems odd.

2. I set the pre conditioning on a timer this morning for the first time, and the garage smelt of petrol when I went to the car, even though the car was a still plugged in. I thought it should pull the power from the plug not use the petrol engine?

thanks

1. Happens to me too. What do you switch on and off to fix this?

2. It uses an auxiliary heater which uses fuel. If there's not enough fuel in the tank, preconditioning won't start. I had this warning when I only had 30 miles' worth of fuel in the tank. There's a warning in the manual not to use preconditioning (or remote start) in unventilated spaces.

1. when I come to a stop in traffic, quick on and off and it seems to reset but I dont think its right to have to do that.

2. Its in a cartlodge so open at the front. I presumed that as it states in the manual that the car needs to be plugged in it would use the battery?

1. This happens because you accelerated to hard and requested extra power from the engine. Once the petrol engine is running it makes no environmentally sense to shut it down immediately, especially if the engine is not yet warm. If you drive a couple of seconds/minutes, when you reach full stop (e.g. red light) it will go back on the electric only. If the engine is warm, it will go back without having to full stop. When cold outside try using pure mode if you want to avoid triggering the petrol engine.

2. There is a setting which is called “use additional heater”. AFAIK if you disable it, the petrol heater should not be used, only the electrical one. But some more experienced user should confirm this, as I never tried it myself.

thank you will try this.

Also as you mentioned in your first post the 'Pilot assist' also drives to close to one side of the lane if you find a way of making it more central that would be great.
