My volvo v50 D5 R-design
Hi chaps, new to the world of volvos, after years of Vag group cars and the odd ford and BMW I've finally stepped foot in a volvo.
My questions are simple, what goes wrong with the v50 D5 and what sort of real world mpg should I expect to return? |

Biggest worry is aux belt tensioner seizing causing aux belt to snap and interfere with cam belt timing, and valves/pistons getting a bit more intimate than they should do.
Religiously follow the aux/cam belt replacement schedule (54 k aux belt, 108 k cam belt for my MY2009 D5 engine), and then you'd just have to be very unlucky. |

Which year is it?
I've an MY08 S40 which had a minor oil leak picked out during it's last service on the Volvo health check - suspected rear oil seal Earlier versions of the D5 had problems with the core oil plug (had a rubber backing), I think this was replaced with a full metal version from 2006 onwards As Scooser said, make sure the cambelt etc. is changed |
