Default Clang after pulling away

Seeing as I've been on her replying to my other thread, i thought i would raise another 'niggle' that I've had with my 2008 1.8s V50 for the 2.5years I've owned it.

Start the car, pull away and about 10sec down the road there is a clang which sounds like it comes from the underside of the engine bay. You can also feel a slight vibration through the floor pan. I brought this to the attention of the main dealer a couple of weeks after first buying the car and they told me it was normal, and was something to do with the ABS.

Does this sound right? never had it on any other cars in the past. If it is the ABS it doenst affect its operation as the ABS cuts in just fine - I know this as i would have gone up the rear of someone last week if it wasn't for the ABS cutting it!!

Cheers

Adam

The abs self tests about ten seconds after you pull away, it makes a scuffing sound on mine. Clanging doesnt sound right but is probably being caused by the test.

It is when you reach 12 mph for the first time of every journey, that is if the car is started from off. As above though it is the ABS self test.

Agree with above, on both V50's I've owned I got what I would describe as a "twang". Been told its ABS self testing...

Even my 1989 XJ-S does the selftest Which sounds rather "different" compared to other selfchecks

Yep, definitely ABS check at 20km/h. I think I read it in the manual somewhere.

I got really worried the first time I heard it!

I get a very slight twang like sound and then all well after... Rattles your cage though when you first hear it.
