Finally I had a reconditioned steering racked fitted last week together with a
second hand lower steering universal joint from a 1996 960.

It feels fabulous to drive, particularly as I made a point of asking them to ensure that the steering wheel was straight when the U/J was fitted.(The last time it was replaced the steering wheel was left slightly 'off'

The steering system was flushed through with new Dexron fluid, and I had already fitted a filter to the system sometime ago to check the debris.

So, yes it feels like new to drive, but the pump has started to whine whenever the steering wheel is turned. I should probably swap over the pump for a second hand unit I have? The belt was tightened at the same time....

Give it a couple of weeks, the Volvo steering system seems to be one of the trickier ones to effectively bleed and continues to bleed in use so it sounds like a small amount of air is trapped. That will work its way out with use.
