Default 740 bulbs ........

These are H4 bulbs arnt they ?

Reason I ask is that I have been looking for some new brighter bulbs ....... what I have been tempted by are the Osram Nightbreaker Plus .

Has anyone used these on their RWD Volvos ?

H4 indeed mike, It should be stamped on the headlamp glass itself.
I personally, went from night-breakers or halfords similar to HID 5000k, went from better to best.
Night-breakers or equivalent are a well purchased mod.

The lights in my 740 are rubbish, so i put a set of Nightbreakers in. Made a difference but still not great - but thats more down to the bad reflectors! Put a set in my Mini and they are easily the best lights out of any car I've owned!

Which HID kit do you have?

I have a h4 Bi xenon 6000k kit on my car, I want to go back to 5000k as it looks slightly less 'blue' And the HID bulbs I have, got a solenoid on them to pull the bulb back to the full beam position, not the cheap halogen additional bulb, When these give up the ghost, I will sell them and get the twin HID xenons that have not long since come out.
Picked them up from an ebay shop MD cambell, Not selling any items on his shop anymore.

Any chance you could link to a similar kit? Also any chance of some pics at night to see the beam pattern?

I've always been under the impression Xenons should be only on "projector" type systems with clear glass (no pattern) headlights. The problem is my lights are awful and the brighter everyone elses lights get, the less i can actually see!

Ian it is worth checking the condition of your reflectors in the headlights buddy .... no matter what sort of bulb you put in , if your reflectors have lost their high shine silver the pattern and projection of the headlight will allways be rubbish .

So in the case of any of the older Volvos you would be making an illegal modification and if for any reason your insurance company found out..................

I don't recall that Volvo, or anyboby else, has started making complete HID headlamp units for the rwd cars.

The simple solution to reduced night vision is to slow down
