Many years ago I can remember Rover 2000 having a similarly heated screen (I think - it was my father's car) or it could have been the rear screen, most cars then went on to have the less elegant printed circuit stuck onto the glass.
Not so much Ford, but maybe Ford had preferential supply, possibly exclusive for a few years, for Pilkington heated glass windscreens. Saint Gobain also have heated screens but I can't say that I've seen one of theirs.
Heated screens are available on some VW models in some regions these days too.

As with a whole lot of vehicle technology, it isn't actually the car brand that develops these things but component suppliers. Ford don't make windscreens any more than they make ABS systems and brake components such as callipers. Many companies, probably most, don't even make their own dashboards these days. For instance, the mega Nissan factory in the UK gets their dashboards completely assembled, delivered by robot from an adjacent dashboard manufacturing and assembly plant owned and run, on Nissan soil, by Calsonic Kansei. Calsonic also own what used to be known as Llanelli Radiators, and make heating, ventilation and air conditioning units plus radiators for many brands.

The front and rear subframes on Volvo 90 series cars are actually fabricated in the UK for them. I've seen parts in the engine bay from at least four different countries.

The Oilcoolers are/was made by a company in Malmö called Setrab (best friends mum worked there).

Anybody know when the new XC60 in 2wd auto is coming out? The AWD's emissions are high from a company car tax viewpoint so would prefer the 2wd which I have now

I understand you'll be looking late 2017/early 2018 for these.
