David.
Thank-you for your original post. It was helpful especially the pictures
I have an 07 XC90 3.2 AWD and live in Canada so perhaps Volvo has made some changes. Most of what you posted was applicable to my car. There were a couple of minor differences. There were 2 screws under the grab handle, very minor. I needed to remove the wiper motor to access the 2 centre bolts holding the latch assemble. I found that by removing the 4 nuts and dropping the whole latch assemble a couple of inches before disconnecting the cable greatly eased the process (no broken plastic clip!) I also re-connected the cable before reinstalling the nuts.

As for replacing the rusty pin, well, mine looks quiet different from your pictures. The ends seem to be a much smaller diameter so I don't think that the pin could be driven out and replaced. So I ordered a new assembly from an on line dealer in Texas for US$90. The local dealer wanted Cdn$ 250. Money and 45 minutes were well spent to have a properly working latch

Anyway, thanks again.

Yes you can. If you take off the internal handle on the left and unscrew the two bolts, you can unpop the clips from the top part of the plastic trim panel, and it flexes enough that you can jam something in to expose the mechanism. Then you can push the release cable (with barrel nipple) downwards and the door should unlatch.

I was worried I'd need to damage the trim to get in, but thankfully not.

Hi All,

BestGear, thanks for doing this write-up, it's clearly benefitted a lot of people.
I know it's a pain, and it's 7 years old, but would you consider re-uploading the pics again?

Cheers,
Cieran

Ditto. I think Photobucket is to blame here.

Thumbs up Solved my problem, quickly.

Many thanks for the detailed and illustrated post, never had a problem before today but had loads of luggage in the back. Will strip and replace as soon as I get some 4mm SS Rod.

Cheers, Tom.

Hi guys.

Please forgive me, I'm a newbie to this forum but I cannot see the photos within the posts. Do I need to become a full member to be able to view these?
