Yeah I drove around people in the severe snow this year with a half worn set on a 2wd hatchback, they are a magic thing where they do >90% of what a full winter (which is enough for here) and >98% of what a summer tyre does, rather than 85% summer and 95% winter like the traditional all season tyres.

Ive tried Michelin and reverted to pirreli as they wore very quickly.
Now run the pirreli scorpion verdict I think they are, the all season ones anyway and find them excelance. Tyre life has more to do with running preasure than make, my xc70 runs at 41psi all round all year, solo or towing. Tyres are probably on 16k and no desernable wear on fronts or backs. Michelin on the front were worn out by 20k.

Paul.

Good point. They're Zeroes. I think they just don't sit the car in the wet, or damp specifically after the very dry spell.

That's what we have on the the Honda CRV. They were superb last winter.

It’s interesting to see how many different brands seemingly suit the XC 70.
Thanks for the input.
Maybe I should have asked about batteries as the original one on the car gave up this morning. Not bad eight years and 171,000 miles. £ 157 quid delivered and fitted by the RAC as we are currently away for the week. Good service too.

I just picked up an auto 2005 facelift XC70. It had Pirelli STR with about 3mm thread left.
Today I replaced them with a set of Michelin Cross Climate +.

The difference in how the car drives and feel is astounding - let's just say I am very, very happy..

Paul.
I read that the 4wd xc70 allows the back wheels to drive from stationary and then go 100% fwd when moving. This would balance out load to all tyres when taking off.
Do you think you see higher front tyre wear if you have a fwd only model?
I have cross climates that have done almost 15k and are like new?

That's correct - on instant traction models (all P3 AWD V70/XC70) the rear wheels get power when setting off from stationary.

Mine has Conti CrossContact LXSport M+S.
Only had this one two months so only driven in bad rain twice but quite impressed so far - smooth & quiet - possibly better than Scorpion Verde fitted to all the others I’ve had.

Default michelin crossclimate plus

Given the changeable weather we have had over the past year (long snowy winter then very hot dry summer) having read reviews I went for the expensive but with good reviews Michelin Crossclimate plus on the front Reviews state a long tyre life so thought the extra expense might be worth it in the long run. The other day in dry weather on a 40 zone a van turned straight across me and with some quick reactions I was able to stop giving the van driver (think he was on his phone) brown trousers but avoided an accident. Seem very low noise in the cab and very pleased so far. Just hope given the price I get a few extra miles on them making them competitive in the long run. Can't say what they are like in winter having only had them for two months but online reviews seem very good.
