On my first XC70 (MY2005) I ran exclusively STRs for the 230k miles I had it. During that time, as long as I remembered to swap front/rear sometimes, they were easily good for 50k miles, worst I had (without swapsies) was 40k. Can't argue with that. Driving was mainly high speed motorway but also like a country lane thrash and late braking into roundabouts. Come the snow, then unstoppable, even going so far as towing my brother-in-law up a steep hill when he got stuck half way.

My current XC70 (MY2011) has Goodyear Efficient Grip on the rear and Autogrip P308 on the front. Have to say that wet weather grip has been excellent but what has surprised me is grip in corners as sometimes it feels on rails. But forget snow, couldn't get anywhere.

But going back to OP's quest, I'm thinking about putting General Grabber AT3's on in the Autumn. I've had them on my Range Rover Sport for two years now and they are totally excellent. Over 20k miles, wear is minimal, which is excellent seeing as how road tyres last about 15k miles before needing changing (on that type of car), obviously mud grip is good and totally go anywhere in the snow. I also can't upset it in the wet. I could induce some understeer but its 2.5t of car & I'd have to be pushing it. Only trouble is its an H & vmax on mine is 134 (as are the STRs).
