Default new tyres for a c30 T5

so, i have a couple cars so if it snows i can use another one.

so my question, what tyres should i go for? its currently got 215/45R18 ones on it and they seem to be quite limited in what available. I am unsure if i should get some all seasons or summers for them, are summers fine in winter time so long as no snow or frost? the only all season avaiable seem to be the continental ones or just so with a summer, and if so which????

if anyone has any opinions id be very happy to hear them

Summer tyres are not fit for temperatures below 7c, no matter if there is snow or not. All seasons are better, but won't be particularly good in snow, nor will they be great in the peak of summer. They are a compromise, often without the deeper/wider thread of a proper winter tyre.

I've used a combination of summer, winter and all season tyres for the last 15yrs or so. If you've the space and money to keep a second set of wheels and tyres then the most optimal route is to run proper winter tyres in the winter and summers in the summer. However, for the last 4-5yrs I've run all seasons on both vehicles and I'm happy with that decision.

I would wholly recommend Michelin CrossClimate 2. The original CrossClimate and CrossClimate+ were disappointing for me in that they were a jack of few trades master of none. The CrossClimate2 is a completely different effort. In most summer conditions I don't notice much difference between it and a decent summer tyre. In winter it's as good as a half decent winter tyre and the wear rate seems pretty decent. I've got them both on our V50 and my Nissan Elgrand camper.

The other all season tyre I would recommend is the Yokohama BluEarth-4S. That said, it's more winter than summer and a T5's power would, I think, result in a higher wear rate than I had.

The tyre dimensions you have aren't conducive to options for all-seasons. Personally, I'd change your car to 17's and go 205/50R17. That also enables the ability to fit chains (no idea if you'd ever need to) but you shouldn't fit chains to a C30/S40/V50 using 18's.

Hope that helps.

Yup so that tire size 215 for an 18" is incredibly slim, you would want at least 225 on 18s and more so because its a T5 to get more rubber to the road.

For tires, I can only suggest the ones I have previous run on mine which are the PS4 and also PS4S now but next I might try the PS5s. These has been great all round tires for me, excellent in the summer, great in the wet but never expect them to perform in the snow so have another car with winter tires on.

I have used other tires like accelera and conti's but I wouldn't pop them back on again.

So yes if you have a selection of cars, why not just go straight for summers and stick on some PS4s or 5s which will be awesome in summer and fine for your wet weather as well. If it wasnt a T5 I would be swayed towards the all seasons, but you really need proper summer sport tires to get the most out of the grip on your T5.

I went even further, and now run semi slicks on my T5 ... but I track it as well.

your summer ps4's will be fine for all that, they are still great in coldish wet weather. They just have the added benefits when it comes to summer.
