Default First volvo diesel 2003 XC70 Questions

Hello

I'm a us Citizen that currently owns a 2005 XC70 gas here in the United States.

My wife is hungarian birth and we are moving to hungary in December. We have been searching for cars and have had little trouble with our USA xc70. We found a 2003 XC70 with the D5 diesel that has 140000 miles which I consider low for a diesel. This will be my first volvo car diesel. We own two diesels right now (Sprinter Van here in the States) and a Perkins Prima 50 in our sailboat. So i'm familiar with a basic things

I'm hearing that the D5 is one of the better diesels to own. All the other diesels that we are looking at feel like toys - we were considering the V50 diesel but learned that is really a ford platform and are prone to problems. The XC70 is really on the larger physical size so that concerns me a bit driving around all the little towns that we intend to visit. But I just always felt safe in my current volvo. We have a a 2 year old i just can't see my self feelign save in a Citreon on something similar. (Citreon is our second choice) Audi is too expensive to repair.

What kinds of issues are there with the D5. when should the timming chain/belt be changed. Is there a link someone has to the maint schedule...i read someplace that it was every 18k? Any insight or experience you would like to share would most likely help in forming my a plan for our future car.

it's the four wheel drive you want to be most concerned about!
