interittent starting problems v40 1.9d 2002

hi I have a Volvo v40 2002 1.9 d
most of the time it starts first time but sometimes starter motor wont even turn engine over (had new starter fitted) having to attempt about 5 times then it fires up after 3 seconds starter turning

does anybody know what could be causing this intermittent starting issue?
any help much appreciated

Is the immobiliser light behaving as it should? Both the red LED in the nearside front speaker grille and the yellow car with a big X through it on the dash

Hi the flashing red led on the speaker is not flashing and starting is fine also the remote central working. Is there something wrong with immobilizer? Thanks

Sometimes my car doesn't start first time and the immobiliser light is flashing on the right of the dash. Ignition off and on again and problem solved for me.
