It will be one of the biggest announcements from Volvo this year.

Bah!
Range 10% less than our Kona EV, despite a battery almost 20% bigger.
Ho hum. I’m sure it will be a lovely car...but probably not for us....

Unfortunately there isn’t a standardised range for electric vehicles so different manufacturers take different views on what range is. So all cars have run a drive cycle and generate a range number but that’s a little miss leading and here is why:
If a manufacturer decides that the range is going to be complete discharge of the battery then the car will have a larger range than another manufacturers view that the vehicle range should include the maximum driving range with full vehicle performance. The best example is the Tesla model X vs the Jaguar I-pace. The Tesla has a slightly longer range despite having a much smaller battery capacity but to get the range quoted your maximum speed will decrease once the battery is down to 30% and by the time your down to 10% the maximum speed is less than 15mph. Jaguar on the other had decided the range should be at the legal speed limit so you can travel 230 miles with the ability to keep the car at 70mph if you like. I’m not sure if Volvo have disclosed their view but chances are if the battery is bigger and the range smaller they have probably followed the model jaguar have.
