Does that mean, as soon as the silicates destroy the engine (quote Skyship007), your warranty on the filter is invalidated?

UMMM! It's almost impossible to prove in a legal sense why an old engine failed. If it's a new one it can be done, but even then it can be tricky.
The difficult part is to prove what condition the engine was in before the new air filter unit was fitted. The boy racer parts company will just claim it would have failed anyway and wait to see how you intend convincing a judge that their filter caused the failure. Even if you win, all they will give you is the amount you paid for the unit, not the engine.
A guarantee is of more use, because you do not have to prove why it failed.

The Mobil warranty is fun to read, although the V40 is too old.
https://mobiloil.com/en/article/warr...p-oil-warranty
Part of the exclusion clauses:
equipment modification done without written authorization from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM)

The Amsoil filter warranty is even funnier:
http://www.amsoil.com/lit/Warranty_Filters.pdf
BUT, that has been enforced after oil filter fragments were found blocking a turbo feed line.

Washed the door edges, hoovered the carpet and got a volvo slash to fit on my grille. Need to glue some loops to the back of it so the fixing wont show.

1 Week short of 12 months ownership the volvo has broken down!

Not sure what the problem is.

Started to feel like the car was holding back (like the handbrake was on) intermittently whilst on the dual carriageway, a bit like it was surging and dying away.

I don't know whether it is engine related or brakes binding but I can say that the brakes weren't on fire by the time I got home, although I did drive slowly and it was raining.

Only time will tell once I've checked all the brakes to eliminate that.

Mot due 3rd of April too!

Looks like I maybe a 106 driver again!

Sorry to hear that.
Sounds a bit like a blocked fuel filter. Fuel trouble and dirty MAF sensors always seem to be top of the diesel list, IF it did not smoke, steam, whistle or make less than funny rattling noises.
Hope a bit of routine TLC gets it sorted.

Discovered that the very slow leak of air from the front offside tyre was not a porous alloy or dodgy tyre bead, but a panel pin in the tread. I blew the tyre up yesterday as I have done on a weekly basis over the past coupe of months only to find it half flat today.

So car in on the lift, all four wheels off, washed and good rears swapped to fronts and pair off front waiting to go to the tyre fitters on Monday for a pair of Michelin PS3s to make a matching set. The fronts were getting to the end of their life so puncture no big deal.

As the car cruises in and around Northampton it HAS to have good boots.

I had a problem with my V40 1.9D a couple of years back, similar type of problem. Ended up that it spent more time being slow and not reving above 3000rpm under load. Took ages to find but it ended up being a solenoid from turbo that was cutting off the air supply. Don't think anyone else has had this particular problem on here, but always a possibility in my opinion.

I did wonder about that. Its certainly on the list of faults.
  1. Turbo control valve
  2. Brakes binding
  3. EGR sticking
  4. Wheel bearing?
  5. Fuel pressure regulator
  6. Fuel filter blocked
  7. gearbox failure
  8. basically the list is endless!

I will start with the brakes as they have been slow to let go after being parked up. Got a sudden drop in the pedal the other day under heavy braking and on another occasion the hand brake travel reduced after some heavy down hill breaking. (I don't normally get enthusiastic with the brakes so every now and then I give them a bit of a test and by heavy I mean 'firm')

Just my luck though that I'll have a sticking calliper AND something else gone wrong.
