I just ordered this from Euro Car Parts:- https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/V...95e2dbd&000398

Shell do say it's the correct choice for my 2015 V60 D4 (181):- https://www.shell.co.uk/motorist/oil...BfRUZ0OFBsZElV

Same here. I just entered my reg number and it suggest 0W-20.

However on www.opieoils.co.uk, my reg number suggest 0W-30 oil...!?

I just checked Total and Mobil oil websites. Same result as Shell. My reg suggests 0W-20 on both.

...So not sure why Opie is suggesting 0W-30.

They are normally reliable, but obviously not foolproof. Personally I'd far rather take advice from the car manufacturer or a major oil company.

64000 dollar question - would a 0-30 kill the engine, and if so, how? Am interested to better understand, if possible.

One of you probably has an AWD D4! Both are 181hp but totally different engines.
The fwd has the new VEA 2ltr 4-cylinder engine which uses the 0w-20
The awd has the older 2.4 ltr 5-cylinder engine which uses the 0w-30

Have a look here for better understanding of different oil grades and specs:

Yes, I've read a good deal about oil, including that, but it doesn't answer my question as to whether a 0-30 would be deliterious to an engine which specced 0-20. Any thoughts on that?

Hypothetically putting aside all the other oil specs, I can't see how the slightly thicker oil would be directly damaging to the engine, but it would put greater load on the oil pump drive and so damage the fuel economy.
