I’m very much certain it would have to be coded to a particular car.

Also- any repair/part replacement (genuine or non-genuine parts..) done outside the authorized service network would void the mfg’s warranty. And no authorized service shop will fit a recycled part for you..

Wasn't the law changed on that a few years back, at least in the UK?

Just read through this...

Seems to me the suggestion of the eBay sceen was very helpful and constructive offering a huge saving since the OP complained of £2500 cost, maybe it's worth discussing with the garage directly to see if they would fit it and code it whilst accepting that the screen and its operation will no longer be covered by warranty. Before screen purchase obviously.

Other option is the insurance claim.

Accident was unfortunate, replacement cost is excessive, but unsecured items around the cockpit are always a terrible idea, particularly on the centre section, additionally there's no need for the sarky attitude and purile name calling when people were clearly trying hard to help. Simply saying 'not for me but thanks for your suggestion' is the polite way. This type of dispirited post saddens me in a forum of helpful people.

I believe you are correct. As long as it is serviced to Volvo schedule and spec using original parts then the warranty is not affected.

If it is a coded part then you need to get a dealer on side but I dont believe that is impossible.

Agreed, in legal terms it's not a requirement if it says 'should', it's a preference.

"1. Servicing and repairs should be carried out by an authorised Volvo repairer. Servicing must be undertaken in accordance with the Volvo service programme. Every service must be carried out within one month or 1,000 miles of the specified service interval."

They word it well using thee word SHOULD, means it does not have to be.

I am confused though as I would expect it to state you have you use Volvo approved parts in servicing.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I believe the law was changed to prevent manufactures voiding warranty if work was carried out in an independent garage.

In other words; what is written in manufacturers' documentation does not take precedence over the law.

Ofcourse- bacause all repairs are done by an authorized Volvo repairer- all parts are approved by default. An original part installed by an unauthorized repairman is not an approved part.

One can play with words- could, should, might.. - but the fact is- they WILL refuse a warranty claim on such a vehicle. I personally know of cases where warranty was denied over something completely benign and unrelated to the broken part in question. Car mfgs are not goodwill foundations- their sole purpose is profit.
