Default Intermittent Anti Skid Service Required error. SAS troublesh

2013 T5 - getting an intermittent “Anti Skid Service Required” warning on the dash. VIDA showing some relevant codes which point to the steering wheel angle sensor :

BCM-0109 Communication between control units Communicational problems with SAS, internal fault
ECM-5000 Engine speed (RPM) sensor signal - Faulty signal
SAS-0007 Control module Internal fault
SAS-000E Steering wheel angle sensor Internal fault

Before I try to replace this part, are there any other trouble shooting checks I should consider? The fault seems intermittent and sometimes clears on startup or driving so maybe the SAS isn’t faulty but there is some dodgy wiring somewhere or dirt / debris in the sensor.

They’re classics SAS codes. Easy job - 10 mins if you’ve done one before. There is really no scope for bad connections, I’d crack on and replace it. There are now pattern parts available but personally I would rather fit a second hand genuine part than a cheap copy - if you’re budget constrained.

Thanks. Never tried before but there are a few YouTube’s on it and looks straight forward. I was just wondering why the fault would be intermittent if the sensor wasn’t working correctly. Maybe it’s dust as I read there are optical sensors on it too.

If it’s knackered I’ll replace it it was more I didn’t want to replace it only to find the issue still exists as not fully sure of the root cause.

Mine was caused by the people who refurbed my wheels. They jacked the car on my offside 'u' section arm behind (aft of) the prop shaft. They insisted they never touched it but that is the story and was bent. The steering wheel was also not in alignment when motoring in a straight line, just after the refurb.

I mention because my sas failure code was indeed wheel alignment. Code read 'sas sensor or wheel allignment'. When this strut was replaced and rear wheels aligned, it only reset after driving about 10 mins and not immediately, which I guess makes sense.

Could there be a reason why your front or rear alignment went suddenly off it marginal?

Interesting point. My alignment should be fine but no harm to take a look! Thanks.
