Default how can I turn off auto engine shut down

I have taken possession of the car to-day a V40 auto, on driving back from the showroom the engine cuts out when coming to a stop - is there any way I can disable this from happening, thanks podger

Why would you want to? I know that was not your question but I've had a car for 3 years now with this and it works smoothly and is only beneficial.

Pretty sure you can't permanently disable it, but why bother?

Actually mine hardly ever works, probably because the battery is getting old. We can swap batteries if you like?

There's a button to turn it on and off. By default, it comes on and shows a green light whenever you start the engine.

You can turn it off by pressing the button, but you'll need to do so every time that you start the engine, which is what I do.

It probably has some marginal ecological value, but I find that it introduces an unwanted delay when pulling away and can cause some anxious moments when turning right out of a side turning.

Not if you're indicating.

Lol.

It's wanting to pull away and finding that the engine isn't running.

Of course, the delay is small, but it's unnerving and confidence bashing.

If you tap the accelerator before you need to set off that should start the engine up. It's then ready to go that split second later when you need it. Just tap it, no more than that. Try it and see how you get on.

I hear what you're saying, but when I'm turning right out of a minor road onto a busy main road, I'm not always going to know in advance exactly when I'm going to pull out.

So I'd have to tap the accelerator well beforehand in order to allow for a split-second decision, which defeats the object.

YMMV.

I turn onto the A1 every day coming home doing this. No slip road, a straight turn left onto a single carriageway, main arterial road between Edinburgh and Newcastle, 60mph stretch. I leave the car in off mode and then when I see a gap where I can pull out I tap the accelerator to start the engine. I don't leave it running the whole time. No gap, no tap. It's normal anticipation.

Seriously, if you indicate at junctions then the stop/start doesn't kill the engine!
