Default Used XC60 D5 2016 SE LUX NAV mileage

HI. I will shortly be purchasing a 2016 D5 SE LUV NAV XC60 AUTO DIESEL. The car has 81K miles. From initial registration in September 2015 to July 2019 the card has done only 3900 miles!!! The bulk of the mileage has been done by the second owner at an average of 17K miles a year. I wanted to ask if the variances in mileage are anything to be concerned about? Car has full Volvo service history and i am purchasing from a Volvo main dealer.

If the miles were the other way around I would be concerned, but since the second owner has done 17k per year for almost 5 years, the DPF, EGR etc should all be in a pretty good state. Otherwise, the current owner would have sorted them or shifted it on sooner.

Agreed.

Also agreed. I bought mine having done an average of 3k per year, with full history but very low mileage. Now I do various long journeys and give it a bit of a spanking, and occasionally fill with premium diesel. All good so far!

I also have that model (registered Oct 15) with almost identical mileage. Agree with the other comments. If it's been doing 17k a year for the last 4 years then it's been getting getting its legs stretched so to speak so should have seen good dpf regens and plenty of running at full temp to keep the EGR behaving.

Unless it's just been done be aware that your next service will likely need to include be a cambelt replacement as the interval is 108k miles or 10 years and the aux belt and tensioner should be done at the same time.

Now have a look here at all the things to be tempted to spend even more money on...

HI all. Thanks for the feedback and advice. Purchasing from a moan dealer and have noted ref cam belt change next year. I can only assume the 1st owner may have used the car for a weekly supermarket run and that's it! MOT and service mileage records are consistent.

If purchasing from a main dealer confirm the vehicle comes with a 'Selekt' warranty. If it does then that should mean uninterrupted service history by Volvo. If it doesn't it's not necessarily a cause for concern but I'd check if there is evidence in the history that the aux belt was replaced at 54k miles. If there isn't get that done now (should be £200 tops) rather than wait another year (or negotiate a deal as part of the purchase - maybe even get a discount on cambelt done early too?).
