Default Volvo V50 Drive complete nightmare

Hi all, hope someone with more knowledge and experience than me can help.
Having a complete Weston Super mare of a time

Been fitting a clutch and dmf in my 2010 Volvo 1.6 Drive model and it was all going well until I couldn't get out the seized 8mm bolt that fits a 10mm spanner (nice one Peugeot). I couldnt use heat so welded a nut on the rounded off bolt head..long story short i was in a hurry and put the welders earth clamp on the body not engine block and I think i might have done some damage to the electrics..

Car starts up and runs okay and lights wipers etc. work ..aside from an 'immobiliser fault that seemed to clear after unlocking'locking the doors.

However the radio has now stopped working completely,,,checked the fuse and No.43 was blown. Replaced fuse and it still blows so presume the very expensive and coded radio is ruined . I can get hold of a replacement but my local Volvo garage say they cant code it to the car and there arent any aftermarket radios that fit.

Car has done 189k miles and is worth very little so I cant really justify spending hundreds on a new radio. In economic terms it's probably now scrap but I just fitted a new Valeo DMF clutch and driveshafts and the engine and box are good so I really dont want to scrap it..

Other problem is the ECU now refuses to go to sleep with the ignition off.
The throttle valve is constantly buzzing all the time and flattens the battery.

I don't know what controls the timeout on the throttle unit..whether it be the ECU, CEM or the throttle valve itself. Out of ideas and I can't find anyone that repairs V50 CEM units or radios. Volvo garage advised me to check and clean the contacts on the CEM which I have done ..other than that they could offer no help

Apologies for the long post.
All help gratefully recieved before I reach for the Scotch and revolver :music-smiley-019

Have you had the fault codes read; got to be a starting point?
Have you disconnected the battery, left it then reconnected to see if that resets anything?
There's guy in Essex who gets good comments on some of the other groups on this forum who can either repair your modules or copy the vehicle specific coding from yours to another working module.

Are you sure you have sound earths on the engine block to the chassis and chassis to the -ve terminal of the battery?

Thanks Wynnjj, that's good to know i can do something at reasonable cost if it does turn out to be the CEM.
Battery has been disconnected and left overnight and no change.

I have an Icarsoft scanner that connects to every module except the radio and amfm tuner box?...shows no faults on anything other than the one for the light dimmer on the CEM but that cleared okay.

Thanks Clan that's a good idea I will check all of those are good before going further. The earth strap onto the engine has been removed and replaced but I will check it again and the earths onto the chassis around the battery.

Ive been trying to trace the wires that feed the relay in the fuse box thats turning on the air doser throttle thing permanently. I suppose my next move is to get a Haynes manual as I can't find any wiring diagrams online.

Volvo Electronic Wiring Diagrams.

I wouldn't rely on the Haynes manual for accurate wiring diagrams.

All earths I could find cleaned and tightened in the engine bay ..no change.

Does anyone here have experience with this company?...say they should be able to repair my radio.

You could ask dealer how much to remove MOST, soft is about £18 then you could use any used radio. Could be cheaper than repair or use vdash to clone your unit to another with same nr but it cost around 40 eur

Thanks
My local Volvo dealer told me it was impossible to fit a used radio and that plugging one in could cause the cars computer to shut down..but happy to sell me a new radio ££££ Do you know of any companies that offer a radio cloning service ?
