Default Fluid change in auto gearbox and Haldex fluid change.

Hi All

2010 XC70 65k miles D5

I recently emailed the dealer where I bought my XC70 and.asked about service schedule for the above.

Their reply was a surprise, there is no official service schedule for either, however, if you are using your.vehicle to tow, we would recommend new fluids for both.

Has anyone else had it done, is it worth it? I'm normally a prevention rather than cure type.

Regards

Richard

There is an official Volvo optional service listed for the auto gearbox oil for when towing and taxi and other arduous tasks are carried out.

At your mileage it is a good thing to change the auto oil if you intend keeping the car long term .

If you are not sure you are going to keep the car then its ok to let it go to over 100,000 miles it will be fine, but a very good idea to have the auto oil changed at that point .

Up to date software is just as important as it is continually "tuned" each year to allow for wear and other useful features. A new diagnostic routine was added around 2012 for example.

There's a couple of threads here on changing the ATF. Search for the "am I playing with fire" thread which has a lot about it.

In a nutshell though, it's very easy to partially drain and refill the ATF about 3.5L at a time. Do this a few times and the fluid will be much fresher.

The Haldex fluid change is a bit more involved - but looks perfectly do-able. There's a good video on YouTube from "VolvoSweden" about it.
