Default Anti skid service and won't start afterwards.

Brother-in-laws V70 D5 2wd auto 2004 or 2005.

Does the fact it wouldn't start narrow it down? Hour later when the AA (ANWB in Netherlands) arrived, it started and they drove home.

I have his DICE clone, so he hasn't read any codes yet

I'll obviously read all other threads and advice, but haven't come across the 'not starting' secondary symptom yet.

yep - that error appears when its EXTREMELY low battery - not just LOW. The modules go nuts and start to turn off to save power.

get a new battery most likely! panic over

Thanks. New (this year) Varta measuring 12.7V in rest, so we'll keep searching

Resting voltage is a fraction of the story so further testing to confirm good battery condition is needed.

I have videos on my YouTube channel covering battery testing and solving starting problems using diagnostics so between them, you should get some answers.

whats the battery terminal voltage when cranking ? that's a far better estimate of battery condition.

Good enough to be put in his XC60 that's going to replace the V70.

In other words, I don't know.
He's fed up with it and bought an XC60 today, so he's not going to investigate further. (the V70 has 450000km (~280k miles) and has several other issues that could use some attention).

In my experience batteries rarely have a decent restingvoltage if they have suffered a hard life, but I'll watch the vids.

What is a normal voltage for a D5 while cranking? I replaced my (>7 year old) Varta just to be sure I wouldn't get caught in the winter with a non-starting car, Now, a few years on, the new one (not a Varta) is hardly better than my old battery in hesitant starting. The old Varta is still alive and kicking and will soon be used as an off-grid solar-fed powersupply in my shed
