Default Can I buy a new HU-850 from Volvo UK?

(XC70 MY06) I have the clicking/then silent/then full volume white noise problem with my HU850 that has just occurred and I am in the middle of a driving holiday. I see from here and other forums that it is a not uncommon issue which appears to be a failed head unit. I have disconnected the amp fuse and the problem was still there so definitely not the amp. I've pulled the audio fuse now leaving myself without music (not a problem) but also no RTI Nav or reversing sensors - (a problem.)

I just want it sorted as we had the reversing sensors replaced not so long ago by Volvo at great expense and no SatNav is just bloody annoying.

So does anyone know if these HU850s can be bought new from Volvo? I'll even go for refurbished as long as it is guaranteed. There must be bloody hundreds of them coming out of scrapped V70s etc yet on Ebay they are still £hundreds with no guarantee they'll work.

Also there are rumours that a replacement unit won't work as a straight swap without software adjustments - is this the case?

I bloody love that car but am getting ****ed off with failing electronics every few months - electronics that should last longer than they have.

Yours seem to be connected with the satnav and parking sensors. on cars without these accessories no programming is needed although the Volvo dealer will say the opposite. However, given you have satnav and park sensors, it may be different

I'd still give it a try with a used one if the Ebay seller accepts returns. Only thing to look for is to get it from a similar year donor car. And there is also the chance a HU-650 would work.

And of course Volvo has them new for a few coin$$$$$$$

there's someone based in Ipswich that reckons they can repair these.
you have to search the forums to find them though

The firm in question is Central Services, Ipswich.

I've used them to sort my sat nav dvd drive. They are reasonably priced and quick.

Thanks for this, they sound like they're just the ticket. I'll contact them when I get back.

Out of interest how much did they charge to fix the sat Nav dvd?

Sorry it was a while ago AND I can't find the bill. A phone call will be the best option. From memory I sent the item to them and they phoned with a quote before repair.

If you’re competent with a soldering iron you can probably fix this yourself.

I did mine a couple of months ago. It’s the IC’s under one of the EMI shields on the bad pcb of the radio.

My wife said something about the "sodding ironing" the other day. Is this the same thing?
