Default Volvo V70 2005.Petrol filler cap door will not open.

Hello
We have a 2005 Volvo V70 and I am unable to get the petrol filler cap door to release.
It should open with the central locking, but does not.
Would anyone know if there a manual release anywhere?Maybe behind the boot trim, somewhere ?
We are now very low on petrol,so if anyone could advise,we would be most grateful.
Thank you.

Remove the side panel trim in the boot and pull the locking pin open.

You can then unscrew the locking mechanism from the side of the car, open it up and put some grease on the mechanism to stop it from jamming.

Very very common issue.

Alternatively, if you dont want to fix it you can just disconnect the plug connector and leave the locking pin in the "open" position. Then buy a locking fuel filler cap for security.

Probably easier to just fix it though.

I had this on my 2003 V70. I used to just bang it a few times on the side where the release mechanism was (side nearest the boot). Then open and close the central locking a few times.

as above, empty boot so can remove right hand upright carpet trim, pull the plunger towards the rear of the car

+1 on taking apart and cleaning. As an added "safety feature" I fitted a piece of wire to the plunger that it can be pulled open without dismantling the rear of the car.

Leave it unlocked and disconnect it; nobody steals fuel these days and the chances of the very rare bad guys picking on the one car in the car park with a disconnected locking motor....

I'm not worried about theft. More someone putting ****e in the tank.

After many years of not working on cars, I have just been channelling my inner Edd China. Fixed the fuel flap opener problem: dismantle per instructions here and on Youtube, clean and put some very light lubricant on it. (I used GT85). Tested using a 12v supply before refitting. Sorted. 2006 XC70, 140,000 miles.

My problem occurred when I pulled up at the pumps to fill up, flap would not open. Grrr. No apparent way from within to override. It unexpectedly opened at another unlocking, so I stopped it from locking again using a large (but correct) diameter plastic screw cut short and screwed into the hole in the filler flap tab, to stop the bolt from re-engaging. (I initially wrapped the tab hole with insulating tape until the aforesaid)

Question is, what do I (or any of us) do if it fails again in the closed position?

As above, I think the way to do it is to remove the side panel in the boot, which only needs the boot emptied and an 8 mm socket. Once you're in behind the foam padding, I'm not sure you can just pull the bolt back as advised above, though. It's on a screw thread and quite highly geared against the motor. I've not tried this but I'd say you need to grab the shaft and turn it by pinching with your fingers so it retracts. (anti-c/w?)

Hopefully all sorted now but I shall make sure I have the 8 mm socket in the back of the car at all times!

I dunno how it is on V70 but S60 you just rotate a knob and pull the carpeted boot trim away and push or pull the fuel flap solenoid
