RE: Guys help needed V70 will not start
The ignition keys contain a transponder which can occasionally drift out of 'sync' (especially if they're not used for a while) in which case the engine will turn over but not start. You can get them reset at a Volvo dealer (but I think you need to get all of your keys done at the same time).
The black key is a service key. It operates the doors, ignition, and steering wheel lock (but not the glove box or boot). I don't think there's meant to be any restriction on the number of times it can start the engine. |

RE: Guys help needed V70 will not start
have had the volvo system bypassed so its not the security system on either the old or new eqpt.
If some of you remember the car was on a program last yr in the north west & on men & motors called better cars they put a load of ice,sat nav etc in to the car & upgraded the security been in contact with guys who fitted it they assure me that there is no fault with the system because it would not even turn over if there was a fault within system. So its of the the main agents for a vadis check read codes & start from there. cheers guys for help steve |

I've just been through this with my '99 2.4T
The problem was a poor connection on the immobilizer anntena ring. You can gain access to it by removing the lower cover from the steering column. The resistance of the coil should be 5 ohms +/- 10% Check the coil resistance and the illimination lamp for poor contact. Be careful not to damage the wiring to the air bag. |

With the ignition turned on does the CEL light come on? ie the bulb hasnt been removed has it?
If you remove a plug and lay it on the head and crank the engine is there a spark? Can you smell fuel from that cylinder ie is fuel being injected? Have you had any work done recently on the car before the problem started? Is the cat OK? I've known people in your position who have tried everything to finally find that the honeycombe in the cat had collapsed blocking the exhaust. If you put your finger on an injector while someone starts the car can you feel the injector pulsing? Is the clicking sound the seat belt warning? Is the buzzing sound the idle stabilisation valve? Mine keeps buzzing a while when I turn the ignition off. Infact it has the same delay as the interior light! Have you checked all the inlet hoses? None have come off have they or got large splits in them. Good luck, 3 weeks is a long time to have a dead car. Simon |

Hi monsterdark
Have you tried a Volvo independant specialist? I'm sure someone on this Forum could recommend one, where abouts are you? 3 weeks without your car, that really sucks!

RE: Guys help needed V70 will not start
It was traced to the bloody key transponder, if you can remember about 12months ago, my car was on a program called better cars , they put a load of ICe etc into the car for free :-)
Well they upgraded the alarm system, i was told that they had by-passed the volvo system for this new one, it had auto start etc etc. Well after being told no way that it was the new alarm faulty, it was traced to the key transponder, what they had done was cut out the transponder from the old key & glued it to the column this had worked free over a eriod of time causing the problems. So when everyone looked at the key it was just astandard looking key not the volvo one so this throw everybody away from the transponder fault. Well its fixed now back to a volvo transponder key & new transponder ring cheers guys for all the help |
