Default 850 estate - service tips please

I have had 240s and other Volvo estates for years but only recently got an 850 estate. I'm not up to servicing the car myself so it is soon going to garage for service and MOT. Would appreciate any advice on particular things I should make sure they look at ( for example I know the 240 petrol filter had to be renewed...every few months it seemed like!). Registered in 1995 , the car has 125000 on the clock.

I'd only worry if things are going wrong....

By servicing do you mean oil change, or a proper service where they actually check the condition of items according to the service schedule?

The only things I've done on my 1996 850 are a new expansion tank cap (green) as the old ones can lose the seal and you lose coolant water such that you think you've sprung a small leak, and made sure the alloys are torqued to 110Nm as otherwise the rotors can warp.

During servicing make sure they change the sump plug washer with the proper type as these can corrode in from what I've heard if they're not the right material - I'm sure there was a thread on here in the last few months about this.

Other than that just keep up with the service schedule.

A bit more detail would help too....like engine....as then people can give more specific info on what needs doing...especially cambelt interval

Generally if you've got aircon then make sure you keep this running at least once a week to keep the seals lubricated, and that it has a pollen filter.

Try to find an independant specialist near where you live...they'll know the foibles and generally be helpful.

hi, servicing the 850/70 is very straightforward, they are a well designed car and easy to work on (despite what some of the dinosaurs who inhabit the forum might say! )main thing at your mileage is to make sure the cam belt and preferably the water pump have been replaced as has the fuel filter, it would also be worth changing the brake fluid, coolant, gearbox oil, serpentine belt, if you cannot find any record of these items being serviced previously

Thanks for the above comments. I don't know if I mean a full service....probably do...certainly more than oil change and kick the tyres.

Get yourself a copy of the full service schedule then...there's lots of things to do like just checking the condition of items that oil change places/cheap garages don't do.
If you have a local independant specialist go have a chat with them.
