Finally!!!
The R is back on the road!!! Ten months after I bought her, I've rebuilt my Red 855R, and I'm finally driving her again!!
I never realised the clutch on a Volvo could be so light!! Mind you, I replaced the clutch, bearing, input shaft sleeve and lever arm pivot bush, so i guess it's back to how a new car would be!! I am quite surprised by the extra noise of the ferrita Exhaust system. I've got the later one, fitted along with a brand new 16T Turbo, the later one, with the cranked flange. I really want to put my foot down, but with the whole engine being brand new (I rebuilt it) shes gonna need at least a thousand miles of under 3000 rpm first. The engine sounds wonderful, like a motorcycle, with a whining sound when you blip the throttle, I assume this noise is the new pistons and rings in their tight bores!! Anyways, I'm going out for another drive now, I need to get that 1000 miles out of the way!!! |

RE: Finally!!!
out of interest, could you not just leave it idling overnight to get part of that out of the way?

RE: Finally!!!
Excellent. I'm glad you're pleased with it after all the effort and money you've invested in it. Bring it on a leisurely run up north; that'll soon eat into the 1000 miles.

RE: Finally!!!
i thought idling was the worst thing you could do with a new engine - I thought they needed the varied revs for the pistons to bed in properly?

RE: Finally!!!
Hi Nigel
Glad you are enjoying your "R". You deserve it after all that work you put in. Why not add a few miles and bring her up to the performance meet on Sunday at the Crooked Billet. That should add 250 odd! Regards

You're a crazy guy to have done all you have to your car. But I admire your determination and patience. Enjoy your 'new' car.
