Number plates and eu flag
As much as I'm sick to the back teeth of this Brexit stuff, thought I'd ask a related question....
Anyone know if the current GB in EU stars on number plates will be valid from April as an identifier in mainland Europe? Reason I ask is that I'm about to get new plates made as the 15 year old ones I have are way past their best and always get the EU flagged ones to avoid GB stickers. |

I always have my national flag on the number plates, about the only thing British drivers should be grateful to the devolved Welsh assembly for, as it was their acceptance of the dragon on numberplate as legal that forced Westminster to accept it elsewhere. As my Welsh flag is not recognised in Europe having a separate GB sticker is no problem given how seldom I visit the continent. I would however mount it on a plate and display in the rear window rather than stick it to paintwork. Paul. |

Thanks, might just have to go with the St Georges flag then and thank our Welsh neighbours :-)

I removed the EU flag from my number plates many years ago, as did my friends, Im British, and not European. My car is Swedish, not European.

Mine has a Swedish plate indentifier. The S with the EU stars, and it will continue to do so, well past the date where blind faith overtakes reasoned evidence.

I am a proud European, I presently do not wish to display any affiliation with the sad country we are becoming.
My cars will shortly only have the EU ring of stars on their number plates and when required I will temporarily put a GB sticker on to travel across the channel, to the ROI or elsewhere Don.

I have never had any flag on number plates, just have a separate GB sticker as and when needed. No EU/anti EU reason, just prefer plain plates.
But to answer the OP's question, I thought action would only be needed in the event of a No Deal exit, but might be wrong.

My latest XC70 came with plain plates from the dealer. I do have other plates with the European blue rectangle but with Union flag instead of EU stars with GB underneath. As I'm going to France later in the year, I am inclined to keep plane plates on and use a GB sticker on the back. I'd use a magnetic one but the rear boot door of XC70s is fibre glass.

This topic was on the radio news the other day - from what I remember we will have to remove the EU stars and have the GB sticker on the back of the car as we should do now when visiting Switzerland or Norway.
However I would like to see a published statement as the EU may require that there is no blue bar on the plates at all. I would expect that initially there will be a few token prosecutions to prove a point and then the offence used when the book is being thrown at a driver for major transgressions.
