You should not have a problem getting the right alternator for this car as the 2003 is the early type alternator that most motor factors stock.

But if you want to check.

The small control wire on your car should be red/white

On the later cars from 2005 this changed to green/white which is the later alternator which is the one that causes all the problems.

Well got the multimeter on it today and found the alternator not charging (surprise). Next is to remove and get a new on. I will be ordering off part number as advised so I get the right one.

I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Anybody found a decent place for alternators?

Cheers again for the replies.

When my previou v70s alternator failed I took it to an alternator/starter refurb shop, in a village near my work - the chap confirmed my diagnosis of a failed regulator and replaced and tested it on his bench kit. Took all of about 15mins in the shop and £30 quid iirc.
The regs on my version (early) are replaced easily and could be bought off the 'net for half what I paid, but I needed to get the car to its MOT the following day, if you have the time it might be worth a try.

Well just to update I have now fitted an new alternator and no warning on the dash. The car has no warning lights now so all good or so I thought..... took the car out for test drive and now there is a hesitation when changing from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. It goes away on the higher gears.

Starting to wish I never bought this car! Is this anything someone knows about? Please help coz im reading possible new gearbox! WTF.
