Default Start Stop

I have just purchased a lovely '59 reg low mileage V50 1.6 Drive, Start/Stop.
I traveled a long distance to get it therefore would rather solve this problem myself if possible.
The Start/Stop won't kick in. The starter (main) battery appears to be operating below the permissible level as I had that checked. I know this can disable the Start/Stop. My question is, is there any reason why I should not remove the battery & charge it? Will that interfere or cause problems with any other item on the car? Also if needed do I need to purchase a special battery?
Thank you for any help in advance.

Yes It is a good idea of yours to charge the battery but it can take a long time , Leave it on 24 hours if you can .. depending on the capacity of your charger .
If you have to get a new battery it is a AGM type 760 Amps .. Always try your dealer first for a competitive price .

My 2010 1.6d drive S40 required a new battery last year which resolved the stop/start not working problem. Volvo offered the best price with a 3 year warranty whilst Halfords offered a year warranty but were more expensive. The drive variants only charge the battery on over run, a long drive on the motorway may not recharge the battery fully. the drive variants have very specific charging instructions to protect the 2nd battery etc from damage.
