Default Battery dead

hi

my car's original battery has died after 4 years. (2012 V60 1.6d start-stop)
i think it is a bit early as 10-12 years of battery life is not uncommon.
the manual says agm type of battery should be used, which is known for high capacity and longer life for start_stop vehicles ironic

so what age did you change your car's battery ?

My car is a 2006 S60 D5 and I changed the original battery in December 2015.

Main battery or Auxiliary battery?

I changed my 2011 auxiliary battery last week for a Varta YTX9.
It still didn't fix my Start/Stop though. I reckon the main battery may be duff, although it reads 12.8v stood. Gonna measure it cold 1st thing in the morning.

i borrowed an ordinary battery from another car as the battery guy confused me. he said agm type batteries are no good in the hood coz they might be spoiled by heat from the engine.

seems like a main battery problem.
i will make sure and purchase an agm type battery.

Just buy the right one from the Volvo spares dept. They are not that expensive.

Buying a battery from the main dealer is not expensive in the grand scheme of running a car but they are not competitive with the market.

I had to replace the battery on my 2011 S60 D3 last Jan/Feb, there was less than £10 difference between a 'Volvo' battery with 12 months guarantee and a Bosch S5 with 5 year guarantee.

I don't know if it's the addition of the 7" screen, bluetooth connectivity etc. or what the issue is causing the battery failures. Not everyone is reporting it maybe it's just those drivers who use the additional electronics on a regular basis who are having the problem ? My previous S60 D5 was still on the original battery at 9+ years when I sold the car.
