Winters coming. Time to prep the car...u
So winter is coming soon
My car prep has so far been very passive: Confirmed the parking heater is still working. Hadn’t had any smoke yet. Great. Confirmed the Residual Heat heater is still working. My car was toasty warm today when I got back in from the supermarket. I need to Apply silicon to the door, tailgate and bonnet rubbers Change to winter wheels Give the engine bay a good pre winter clean and polish Give the exterior a good clean and polish Clean out the sunroof drains Put some winter washer fluid in Spray the tow bar with some rust preventer Fix a broken speaker wire in the drivers door wiring loom. Noticed a few days ago Get the transmission torque converter replaced What do you think will be the hardest and most costly job?

I assume that was a rhetorical question.

Will you be using any Swissvax products?
I bought their Autobahn wheel wax and it's really good. Also got their seal feed which is supposed to stop doors and windows freezing. |

That speaker wire will be a financial nightmare.
Everything else is a walk in the park. A couple of hundred pounds tops should see the torque convertor sorted very quickly. How hard can it be to remove and strip an XC90 gearbox?

In all seriousness the torque converter is not difficult to change, but a long job. It’s generally easier to lift out the engine leaving the gearbox, subframe, AWD system and suspension undisturbed. Fortunately in the XC90 there is loads of room to do that.
The most risky part i think is removing the torque converter bolts without damaging the torx heads, but with good tools this should be ok. What you will find challenging is the price of a new one from Volvo....
