Just for some real confusion - my previous vehicle between my last 740 and this 760 had a factory fit 1031 rear axle and 1030 front axle. Later versions of similar had a 1031 rear and 1041 front - go figure y'all!

Big clue in the last few words of that last sentence!

Just picking up on the comment with regards to the bottom hole and drainage.

If you look at the image below, the casting for the diff housing has a noticeable amount of material missing on the inside of the diff housing where the bottom bolt locates.

Whilst it's not obvious by looking at the bolts, clearly, someone back at Volvo thought that these units might need an oil change at some point, otherwise, this would have just added cost and complexity to the production of the housing.

It’s just come back from a workshop with a lsd and “tone” ring installed, hence the reason why it’s so clean! I was just in the middle of checking out there workmanship!

I thought it looked a bit solid between the crown wheel and tone ring! Is it an LSD or a Tor-Sen unit?

It’s a Torsen Diff/Eaton truetrac. It’ll be interesting to see how it changes the character of the passion wagon...
