Default Volvo warranty renewal - undecided

Good evening,

Today I arrived home to find a letter from Volvo about extending my Volvo warranty for a further year.

It's a 5 year old XC90 that I bought from Volvo in October. I have used the Selekt warranty and was very pleased with the way that Volvo dealt with any issues.

The renewal is just over £700 which I thought was quite expensive but the letter does suggest that I can phone them to negotiate a better deal. Has anyone managed to get much knocked off the renewal price?

I'm not usually one for taking out extended warranty on anything, but having seen how much these cars can be to fix, I am considering it.

I have had a very quick look at some other warranty companies and can get their top of the range cover for about £500, and with some of them you get a 30% refund if no claim is made.

If I do choose a different warranty company, does anyone have recommendations based on having to use their service?

Thanks

My dealer advised it was not worth the money, said you are better off putting £700 in a pot in case something breaks and if it doesn't then you have £700 to spend on goodies of your choice.
When you look at what's covered then it becomes even less value for money, my rear trailing arm bushes needed renewal while under selekt warranty, guess what, wear and tear item sir not covered £300 please.

Paul.

£700 is a lot of money isnt it, I would consider that a drive train type warrenty as basically beyond your engine, gearbox and Haldex unit I cant see much that would actually cost £700 to fix in the first place. at £300 I would possibly go for it but £700 is far too much.

You don't mention the miles, but definitely not worth for only another year but worth shopping around to cover the next 5 years or so IF you can find a company that is truly honest on paying for the repairs and not having 10 pages with small characters attached to it.

I don't think warranties are worth much in all honesty. All dealers I've known have tried to squirm out and made claiming exceptionally hard work. Whether extended warranty would have paid out for my subsequent problems is hard to know. I've had a wheel bearing go, windscreen bonding failure, interior heater fan fail, engine start button falling off all in the year since the warranty expired, costing well over £1000.

Thanks for the replies.

It's a 2013 XC90 D5. Just coming up to 5 years old and has covered 57k miles.

I have had it since October and bought in from Volvo so got a 1 year Selekt warranty. After about a month I noticed the odd unusual gear change after a long run so took it in for a check. Volvo Identified an internal gearbox issue and replaced the gearbox.

I was very happy with the way that Volvo handled the claim. That is the main reason that I am still thinking about extending, although am now leaning towards not taking extended warranty.
