Thumbs down XC40 First Edition Windscreen cracking.

XC 40 1st Edition R design.
Windscreen cracking. In intense heat 44degrees, whilst in France, our windscreen cracked in top passenger side, then cracked across to centre. Unfortunately on return, the dealers told us it was a stone chip, but it was was not! No impact crater, or explosive sound, just happened whilst parked outside a friends house. Beware other owners. Also head lining coming unstuck.
So very disappointed in being dismissed and having to claim through our insurance. May return to Mercedes, first Volvo in 30 years. Car superb, customer service

Contact volvo head office and send photographic proof of no stone chip.
Could always see if a windscreen company could have a look for free and back up your claim of incorrect fitting or something.

Hi Peter, thanks for that. But unfortunately the dealers did not accept our explanation, stubbornly saying it was a stone chip, but it was not. So therefore this included a 50 mile round trip, 3 hours and £60 excess. Not happy as even when we had to take it in for recalibrating the cameras, we had numerous delays, eventually had to have a loan car. Told to come back later, still not ready after 1 hour wait, finally had to return the next day. No apologies either!

I'd still complain to volvo head office and about the way you have been treated in the dealership.
I'd also go another dealership in the future (partly because I'm stuburn) . I'm quite lucky with my dealer, always been really helpful with me.
As it's a newish model you never know it may be a common problem with the windscreen and you may end up getting a refund in the future.
I wouldn't let this put you off volvo there really good cars and the majority of volvo dealers seem to have good reviews.

+1 on that look for a new dealer before condemning the car/brand.

Some of us in the NE will travel quite a distance to avoid 1 chain of dealerships & the choice I use couldn't be better

My V60's screen also cracked in the very hot weather, attributed by the dealer to the tiniest stone chip that was along the crack path.

Autoglass can do the calibration; they did mine when the screen was changed. It meant there was just the excess to pay, not the dealer as well/ claiming that back from the insurance company.
