Default Exhaust advice needed

Mornin' All,

18 months on and I'm still very happy with my secondhand '04 S60 2.5T. I'd go so far as to say it is the nicest drive I've had to date, despite being an older car. It was supposed to be a stop-gap, but when my other half suggested I change it for a new vehicle a couple of months ago I thought 'Why bother?'. It has 44k miles on it, runs like a swiss watch, it has enough power to be fun to drive, it's comfortable and safe.

But enough waxing lyrical. I have a decision to make about the exhaust, which has begun to show signs of having reached the end of the road. A new stock system is pricey, no real problem but looking around at different options I've realised that a custom built / performance exhaust will not cost a great deal more than the standard system.

So here's my quetion - does anyone out there have experience of upgrading from standard to performance and, if so, any recommendations? I'm no boy racer, but I don't mind a bit of a burble providing it's not loud enough to break the neighbours windows when I leave for work in the morning. A little boost to performance would also be fun

I've already spoken to a local Powerflow chap who I'm told is pretty good, but I know nothing about the systems themselves. Grateful for any advice!

what exactly is wrong with your exhaust ? they might look a little ropey but if it is sound and not leaking it will go on for many years yet being stainless steel .

Default Ferrita stainless exhaust....

You can find the Swedish made Ferrita systems that I stock here on my website:

http://kalmar-union.com/parts/volvo-...v70_-exhausts/

The prices shown include VAT and overnight delivery by TNT.

I have been importing stuff from Ferrita for nigh on 20 years.... if you search here and at t5d5.org and vpcuk.org you should be able to find some fair reports on their pipes.....

Don.

Thanks Clan,

I think the problem is that it has been damaged soemhow in the past (a guess). It has been repaired (not well), and at the last MOT they warned me the welding was looking suspect. I've now got a slight leak. To be honest, i'm not inclined to mess about having it repaired again so new exhaust it is.

Incidentally, I had a wander round to a local tuning specialist this afternoon and they showed me a couple of the Powerflow exhausts they had removed from customers vehicles. The quality of the bending and welding was pretty poor so I think I'll steer away from that option.

I have had sports exhauts on my cars previusly (Supra TT, BMW 325, M5's etc).

The branded systems like Scorpion, Miltek etc are good as some R&D goes into it to tune the sound to reduce drone (which is quite complex) and get the fit right etc. If you get a branded system, chances are you will be very happy with it. Feritta as mentioned by Don @ Kalmar union are a big name and popular amongst Volvo owners.

Custom builds can be OK and many people like them but, as far as I know, nothing goes into the tuning for drone etc. Just tread carefully.

One one of my C70's, I just fitted an OEM Volvo unit as the original was replaced with a cheap unit when I lent my car to my uncle and he took it for an MOT and got conned for the exhaust. The original's last very well and performance was also retsored to how it should be.
