Take a look here, the pdf instructions are 33 (!) pages and a little hard to read, but well worth it (included are partnumbers and wiring diagrams). They are for a V70 but it is the same for the XC90:

I decided against this way, as the (touch)screen from a nav is a little out of reach from the drivers seat. So my thinking goes more into using a tablet, that is mounted between the centre speaker and the air outlets. If I get a working solution to remotely access my dialer app on the phone from this tablet, I'm good to go...

Thanks SwissXC90 - it's thanks to you I got the RTI working in the first place, you are a genius!
I'm now considering butchering the screen to fit a TOMTOM device inside it. I've just ordered a used complete RTI unit so I can butcher that and then swap it over, thus keeping the working RTI in case I ever need to replace it. Many thanks for your help.
