Default Service indicator

I picked up a nearly new V90 R-Design in May this year.

Car was originally registered end March 2019, and had done around 2,000 miles when I got it (about 8,000 now).

I understand the standard service interval should be 18,000 miles or 1 year.

When I look on the Car Status screen on the Sensus system, it tells me that the first service is due in c.10,000 miles (correct), but in 55 days - this takes me to early December, which is just over 9 months since registration?

Is this correct - whilst I am happy to have the car serviced regularly and in line with recommendations, if the car shaves 3 months off each interval in 4 years I'll end up having an extra, unnecessary service?

The service reminder was set at the PDI which was a year before the message came up ...so the car was hanging around for 3 months before registration probably in the showroom ... It will be ok when you have your service they reset it from there and it will be correct for next time , technically it is correct as the car is a year old from the PDI point of view , but the service book counts from the date of registration .. it should also have the date of PDI in the service book is is correct ? It could be that the car service indicator was not reset at the PDI and the message came up a year after leaving the factory .
Volvo fixed this problem earlier in the year by forbidding the PDI being carried out more than 2 weeks before delivery ..

The car will be 1 year old in December.

yes , so the PDI must have been in December all being well , that's why i said it might have been hanging around in the showroom until registered at the end of March .. perhaps we will be told what was in the service book regarding PDI Date ...

I bought a delivery miles Alfa once with a strange gap between PDI / registration and collection. Turned out it had been crunched before delivery and rejected by the original ordering party!

Only found out when the paint on the front bumper started peeling off...

I remember the Alfa 33 , they had been standing in a field for 18 months after leaving the factory before delivery and had extensive corrosion starting when they came off the transported for sale .

Thanks all. Will check the service book to see when the PDI was, but what you are suggesting kind of makes sense I guess

I have the same with my V90. The car was registered 28th December 2018, but the service indicator has been on for a while now and is now showing service overdue. I checked the service book and the car was PDI'd early September. I am going to ignore it and have the car serviced on or around 28th December when the car is a year old.

Volvo have since tightened up on this one by not allowing the PDI to be carried out more than 2 weeks before delivery .. so people check this when you pick up the new car !

Thread resurrection, I'm seeing the same problem with a March '19 registered V90 - the service reminder is now showing as due within the next 30 days. The supplying dealer's proposed that I either ignore it or take it in to be reset. However a quick Google search has shown a simple method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRYjDrqSUPw to reset the reminder by holding the cruise control speed down button whilst starting the car.

I've tried the process repeatedly but to no avail. Has anyone here managed it, or have Volvo recently changed / prevented the procedure?
Thanks.
