Thanks again.

My main concern was the length of the shaft so I have clearance to turn the nut and the angle of it from the parallel. I haven't left the shaft completely parallel to the face of the ring, as you mentioned part bending it to be straight. I hope if I haven't go that quite correct then the offset of the ring from the back of the shaft will compensate nicely

My company has been rebuilding these for years plus the pumps as well. hope this helps.
What company is that please?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but will adjusting / tightening this take up play at the rack end of the steering rack, or is it to adjust the steering wheel end of the steering rack

Thanks in advance,

Mike

It presses the rack into the pinion so takes out radial play in the rack on the steering wheel side .
There is a bush on the other side , so if play and it is not the inner ball joint then the bush will be worn .

I've never known one wear .. It would be a specialist job as the rack would need dismantling , IF you could get a bush !

Hi,
my 2005 xc90 D5 has a metal guard underneath and around the adjustment screw on the rack. I cant see anyway of getting at it. Does it require the dropping of the sub frame? Any suggestions? Thanks.

May sound like a stupid question but what exactly is a steering rack damper pad. I assume it removes vibration through the steering column?

It is a plastic pad which presses the rack into the pinion, the adjustment is to minimise any play , go too far and the steering goes stiff .
