Still haven't had this repair done, due to the cost. I don't have £1500 knocking about, and I have a tax bill that needs paying, so I'm just driving without DSTC & ABS. My car is going in for it's MOT tomorrow. Does anyone know if this "ABS/DSTC service required" message will mean an MOT failure?

yes it will fail if :
A warning lamp:
a. is missing
b. does not illuminate
c. indicates a fault

why dont you get your unit repaired ?

Thanks Clan. so if I understand your reply, it will fail because of this error message. I was hoping (obviously) that functioning brakes, even without abs, wouldn't mean a failure.

yes they check the operation of the ABS warning light , i took those words direct from the MOT Testers manual as reasons for a fail .

when i mean a repair i mean get your original unit repaired for a couple of hundred pounds or so rather than buying a complete new one . did you ever get the volvo fault code for this failure ?

By driving it around with no ABS you would find your insurance invalid in the event of an accident .

My missus believes though, that the local independents (whoever I may nominate) to carry out the repairs, probably won't allow me to supply it, as they'll be losing their 15% markup. I hadn't thought of that.
If your local garages refuse to fit a unit bought from Rufe, then just simply go elsewhere. There is a good place near Oldham who would not have such an issue.

Really good shout Clan. I contacted BBM reman, and they've quoted me between £150 to £200 to repair it. I wasn't able to give them the part number though, so I thought I'd call a local Volvo dealer, guess what? The b*st*rds won't divulge their part numbers! What a mess around, really struggling to keep my temper under control. I'll take it back to the independent who diagnosed it for me and ask them for the part number, hopefully they won't be so difficult.

Thanks TT82, would that be Trevor Burgess or Mitsiland?

If you can get it to Blackpool I can scan the car for you and see what the errors are and will be able to get you the part number

Duke Street Volvo in Shaw. I've used them for a number of jobs and they've never had issues using OE parts I've supplied.

Thanks for your kind offer Thanatos. Unfortunately the MOT has now expired, and I'm in Stockport. I'll risk a drive locally, back to Hallmark, as they did my fault code readings initially, but I think driving it to Blackpool without an MOT would be a bit risky!
