Kind offer Keith but I've just done mine the normal way.
With the right tools, the pulley removal and tightening "difficulty" is a red herring and no trickier than lifting the bonnet.

+1 (although i prefer to use my 600mm bar)
a mash hammer, socket & 300mm bar for tightening up....

just mark before removal and tighten to same mark..

On of the best tools I have, never failed to remove a crank pulley nut yet

An impact wrench in its truest sense.

Thumbs up

Available now under 30 quid, this has never failed to shift any crank pulley nut I have come across and some of the Hondas and Toyotas are 450-500 Ft Ibs and never had a nut or bolt that it could not get to but have had access problems in the past with getting in with an air impact gun or battery one especially on 4x4's with longitudinal engines where the radiator or sub frame are in the way.

i believe they are rated at 600 nm... so maybe i'll hold the hammer with just the two fingers

the belt on my s60 was changed by a dealer, looking at the crank pulley the nut and bolts are old don't look like they have ever been out. So I imagine the dealer fitted the belt without removal of the pulley as I cant see them not wanting to sell me new bolts and a nut unless of course they re used em.

Most likely they re-used them, because they don't need renewed really.....

But very possiible they are well versed re. leaving pulley on... something i've yet to do, i have a petrol and i needed 100% proof as to the marks when i did my belt so i whipped off my pulley, but re-used the bolts and nut.
Why? Because they are just bolts and a nut, totally re-usable 100's of times.

You can get the belt on & off on the petrol without removing the pulley - don't think you can do this on the diesel though.
There's no excuse for not buying the crank holding tool, it's only c. £26 from Amazon.
