I have always had a full software update when my car has been serviced. As "familymanreg" has said under the Volvo Service Promise it states "free software upgrade "

I would be ringing Volvo UK Customer Service telling them who your dealer is and asking them to contact the dealer. I would also be looking up the Volvo Service Promise and printing it out to take the dealer.

keep an eye here for what to expect

https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...ftware-updates

As has been stated, you should get the latest "total software update" at your annual service. You can ask for this to be done other times (my dealer was initially reluctant, but a check with Volvo UK said they can do it - free). Depends how impatient you are for the fantastic enhancements delivered through these software updates ...

No dipstick to check oil condition. I would use a different Volvo dealer from now on.
I agree... pretty shocking actually... to me it's a major proof of incompetence.

Ooh man... i use that expression so often. I know the feeling. Just like nu11eaf said... just send them to hell and get a new Volvo dealer.

Just received a reply from Volvo CS. I had asked what software updates should be done at service. The link says it all.

Thank you for your email.

If you would like to follow this link you will be able to see all of the updates with the software update: https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...centre-display

Volvo is constantly developing the in-car systems and the services offered to you. When the software in your car is updated you can have access to many new functions as well as improvements. You can update the software in your Volvo to the latest version when your car is serviced at an authorised Volvo dealer.
Updates from and including October 2019
Applies to Europe and China from and including model year 2018, not XC40, as well as the XC40 model year 2019: Improvement of engine management system optimisation.

Does anyone have a sense of how much data Connected Safety uses please? I don't want to it to consume all of my PAYG data sim allowance!
Thanks1

no idea, not very much I expect.

Some general info here:

Perhaps just check your data use one day, and again say a week later? Currently I use a 'free' 200Mb a month SIM (though not for map downloads) and no problems with data use.

I decided to take the country back roads to work this morning due to the traffic on the A38, on doing so I was pootling along narrow and windy lanes and came to a long steep hill where at the top there was a near 90 degree left hand bend as I approached the top of the hill the connected safety warning came on, nothing in sight other than road, but around the bend the road was covered in mud! Now clearly for these systems to work another driver has to encounter the road condition first but was definitely impressed it works well!
