Identical problem with my new XC60 when delivered last year which carried on for some months, but now has totally cleared up by itself. Like others I strongly believe that the black windscreen washer tubes had an internal coating of a type of release agent white powder that had been used in the manufacturing process to allow easier removal of the tube from the moulding machine.

That is an interesting fact . I know it's not the volvo fluid as i have been using it for 40 + years !

That’s good to hear that it cleared up by itself. I end up using less washer fluid to avoid the problem but maybe I should use it more to flush it out!

you need more to stop it freezing you need a 33% mix to protect to -18 C

I have this issue but only from the rear washer nozzle, with the white salt-like deposit down the back of the vehicle. I don’t have the same issue with the front wipers so I presumed that there is either a filter somewhere before the front wipers, or the salt was precipitating out in the longer line to the rear washer (or perhaps as others have suggested, it might be due to a release compound in the line).
Has anyone been able to inspect the washer bottle to see if the precipitate is present there?

I never had this since when new.

Now freshly serviced, the rear windscreen is coated in this white powdery stuff. This am rear wiper stopped spraying completely - temp 0 - 1 degrees. Front was spraying OK

I think it's the Volvo screenwash

Every time the top up with (I assume) Volvo Washer Fluid my car, I see the white residue at the rear windscreen washer and both the rear nozzle and the headlight popup washers are having a struggle to push water through.

I refill with distilled water (only) and then rear nozzle works better, but my front popups are so blocked by now that they are no longer operating.

The much worse problem though is the stupid streak the car leaves when you are washing your windscreen on the drivers side (left I live in Continental Europe) that is right in your vision of the road.

Where do people tend to get their official Volvo fluid from? I've not been to a dealer yet as none that convenient, but have seen "official" Volvo fluid for sale on eBay - £12.50 delivered for 1 litre. Clearly it might not be official, but how does this price compare to getting it from a dealer (can't find any info out there).

Also, there's a supplier selling 10 bottles on ebay for £45 - how diluted does sit need to be? I can see that the bottle needs about 5 litres, so how far does 1 litre of concentreated go? (I don't want to end up with 10 litres if this will last me 10 years!!!)

someone is ripping you off on e-bay it is about £3 a litre from a dealer .

mixing ratios are:

25% -10C
33% -18C
0% -28C

so for normal circumstances put a litre in , if it is going to be VERY cold lower than -10C then put in two litres but for most of our UK winters 1 litre per wash bottle does the trick

31301249 it should be a light blue colour

That is just plain barmy, if you cant get to a Volvo dealer (which is preferable) buy a good quality fluid from an auto shop, (not the rubbish normally sold in supermarkets).
I am using Polyguard streak free concentrated fluid at £3 for 5ltrs which I stocked up on from my local Boyes store last year, it is good for -10°c at 50/50 and -20°c neat. But I noticed new stock in another store is now -10°c neat, (shrink flation) so check the freezing point on any fluid you buy.
