Help required urgently

Car as shown below
There is a black circular rocker switch with a white dot just to the left of the parking brake, it is not shown in the users manual.
At the moment there is a constant high pitched whine coming from that area (it is unbearable)
What is the switch for and more importantly how the hell do I stop the noise ?

Not standard Volvo fitment so I suspect an owner added mod. You'l have to follow the wiring to see where it goes to.

Thanks that is probably what it is. Thankfully after switching the car off and on a few times the screeching has stopped. I will pop it into the local auto electrition on Monday.

Do you know who owned the car previously?

No but I got it from Volvo dealer Clelands of the Borders, presumably they would know.

Is it not on V5? Picture might help......what happens if you press the button?

Clelands are a well respected Volvo dealership in the area, I am sure they will enlighten you as to what the button does and will probably know the previous owner as well as it being listed on your V5 document.

The previous owner hasn't been shown on the V5 for some time.

No it doesn't show on the V5 now, the button doesn't seem to do anything, I would take a picture but it is literally just a little round black button with a white dot that switches between 2 positions. I will speak to Clelands tomorrow and if they can't help take it to the auto electrician.

Does the noise start as soon as the car is started or is there a delay?
